Zach Franko

Head Coach & GM

A proud Winnipeg native, Franko brings a wealth of experience and a strong hockey pedigree to the Monarchs organization. His playing career spans four seasons in the Western Hockey League (WHL) with the Kelowna Rockets and Kootenay Ice, followed by four years in U SPORTS with Acadia University and the University of Manitoba. He also played professional hockey in the ECHL and across Europe for three seasons.

Franko began coaching in 2022 with the St. Boniface Riels of the Manitoba Major Junior Hockey League. In 2024, he joined the Swift Current Broncos as an Assistant Coach, contributing to the team’s 34-29-1-2 record and a berth in the 2025 WHL Playoffs.

As a coach, Franko prides himself on a player-focused approach emphasizing work ethic, accountability, and creativity—both on and off the ice. “I want my players to play fast and within our structure,” he says. “Creativity is the key to confidence, and I want to push my players to their limits and give them all the support, direction and resources to do so. I aim to help and push each player to improve 1% daily.”


Benji MicFlikier

Assistant General Manager

Ben was born and raised in Winnipeg, playing U18 AAA Wild, St. Paul’s High School, and 2 years of junior hockey, mainly with the Winkler Flyers.

He has coached the past 2 seasons in the MJHL with the Niverville Nighthawks, and Winnipeg Freeze.

“I’m excited to continue with the Winnipeg Monarchs, and turn a new page for Junior Hockey in Winnipeg. We want to develop great players, people, and build a successful team culture of accountability and support.” – Benji


AJ Zeglen

Strength and Conditioning Coach

AJ has worked extensively with professional, collegiate, and amateur athletes from around the world. He is the manager and head strength coach at Focus Fitness where he brings over 10 years of experience and his unique brand of training techniques to professional athletes, fitness enthusiasts and community members alike. He comes from a diverse training background having competed in a multitude of different sports including basketball, rugby, playing football for the University of Manitoba Bisons, competing in natural bodybuilding at a national level, running the Manitoba Marathon, and holding a world record for the world’s longest car push in 24 hours. AJ has trained athletes in a variety of sports ranging from racquetball to football, he has worked with Hockey Canada, the Winnipeg Jets and many other hockey and football players from development ages through to professional in a number of leagues including the NHL, AHL, KHL, ECHL, and CFL. Helping people attain their goals and realize their dreams is what drives AJ. He enjoys helping people become the best versions of themselves and truly believes working out in the gym helps people find that.


Andy Kollar 

Goalie Coach

Born in Winnipeg, Mb.

Married to Angie and have two children, son Ashton 18, and  daughter Dylan 15.

Grew up playing and loving hockey and golf.  Played minor and junior hockey in Manitoba.  Moved on the United states for 10 years playing hockey.  Graduated from the University of North Dakota with degree in International Studies.   Was lucky enough to play hockey for the University of North Dakota Fighting Sioux.  Winning a NCAA championship in 2000.   Went on to play pro hockey in Macon, Quad City, Augusta, Orlando, and Winston Saleem.

Murray Monkman
Director of Player Personnel
At the age of 46, Murray Monkman is eager to bring his 30 years of playing and coaching experience to the Winnipeg Monarchs.

Murray’s playing history excelled while attending Athol Murray College of Notre Dame playing U15 AAA level while attending the school. The Gimli product then moved back home and played for the Interlake Lightning U18 team for two seasons and then followed stints in the MJHL with the Southeast Blades and the former Manitoba Jr. B Hockey League, Stonewall Jets.

He started coaching straight out of Jr at the age of 23 as an assistant coach for the Dakota Lancers in the Winnipeg High School Hockey League. He made his jump to the Junior level as an assistant coach for the Arborg Ice Dawgs of CRJHL for one year, then taking over Head Coaching and General Manager duties the following season. Taking the team to the finals in his third season with the club. He then was an assistant coach with the Stonewall Jets in the MMJHL for one year. He is now entering his third season as the Head Coach and GM for the North Winnipeg Satellites in the CRJHL. Additionally he has been scouting for Jr A teams in the MJHL and SIJHL, and semipro in the FPHL.

Murray has already been working tirelessly for the Monarchs organization the past two months and is excited to be part of its future.
