Monarchs Look to Rebound in Northern Manitoba Following Tough Weekend

WINNIPEG, September 29, 2026

It was a weekend of high energy and heavy battles for the Winnipeg Monarchs, but the squad came up short on the scoreboard in back-to-back home tilts. Despite dropping both contests, Winnipeg showed late-game pushback and flash moments of talent that they will look to build upon as they hit the road to play their remaining two games in their three game set against the Northern Manitoba Blizzard.

Home Opener Sparks Atmosphere, But Flyers Edge Monarchs 5–3

The energy inside hockey for all centre was electric on September 25 for the Monarchs’ official Home Opener. Fronted by a fantastic crowd and enthusiastic game-night vibes, Winnipeg locked horns with the Winkler Flyers in a fast-paced clash.

The teams traded blows early, heading into the first intermission deadlocked at 1–1. However, a third-period surge by Winkler saw the visitors outscore Winnipeg 3–1 in the final frame, turning a tight match into a 4–2 deficit that proved too steep an uphill battle to climb.

A bright spot for the Monarchs came courtesy of Brayden Gregg. The talented forward, who joined Winnipeg this season after signing a WHL scholarship and developmental contract with the Wenatchee Wild, showcased his elite speed by burying his first goal as a Monarch on a shorthanded breakaway.

Slow Start Dooms Monarchs in 5–2 Loss to Blizzard

On Saturday, the Monarchs welcomed the Northern Manitoba Blizzard into town for Game 1 of a three-game series between the two clubs.

A sluggish opening 40 minutes proved costly for the Monarchs, as Northern Manitoba stormed out to a 3–0 lead in the first period and extended it to 4–0 in the second. Refusing to go quietly, the Monarchs found their footing in the third period, scoring two unanswered goals to cut into the deficit, highlighted by alternate captain Idris Alameddine netting his first goal of the season.

With the Monarchs pushing late with an extra attacker, the Blizzard managed to slide home an empty-net goal to seal the 5–2 victory.

Northern Road Trip: Tune In Tonight & Tomorrow

The Monarchs now hit the highway to Northern Manitoba to complete their three-game set against the Blizzard. The Monarchs will be hungry for redemption and eager to snag their first regular-season victory on enemy ice. The Monarchs are now 0-3-1.
